2020 Arundo Removal Planning is Underway

6/10/2020

Picture
There are over 110 patches of Arundo in the San Ramon Creek Watershed. In 2019 Friends of San Ramon Creek started treating about 10 of the patches and hope to work on another 10 or more in 2020.  We are in the process of selecting the candidates for 2020 efforts using the following criteria
  • Furthest upstream - we need to eliminate upstream patches so they don't migrate downstream
  • Most visible - we want to make sure the public can see the benefits of our work
  • Steep, dense, sites - we want to refine our techniques for removing Arundo in difficult sites.
  • On private property with motivated land owners - we need to work out the best protocol for working with property owners
So far we have identified 4 areas where we hope to work
  • On or near Front St in downtown Danville where there is a huge infestation
  • A few patches in Sycamore Creek off of Camino Tassajara
  • Far upstream on East Green Valley Creek
  • Private property(s) on San Ramon Creek near Hap Magee Park
We expect to perform the work with a combination of volunteers, homeowners and contractors.  If you are interested in helping or donating, please contact Dick Heron at herondick@comcast.net
